Welcome to Challenge 11 – Scraplift a Color Combination
Color is the language of emotion in memory keeping. For this challenge, the objective was to find a layout with a color scheme you love and reinterpret that magic on your own page. After some delightful searching, I settled on a palette that instantly made me think of autumn warmth and blue-sky wonder.

The inspiration came from Ali Edwards’s “Chocolate Cake” layout (which I discovered in Creative Keepsakes Award-Winning Scrapbook Pages). Her playful mix of orange, yellow, and blue struck just the right balance between vibrancy and harmony.
Challenge –
Scraplift a Color Combination – Find a layout with colors that inspire you and challenge yourself to adapt that color scheme to your own creation.
Tips for This Challenge –
- Balance Your Colors – Use your dominant color for about 60% of the layout, secondary color for 30%, and accent color for 10%.
- Research – check out scrapbooking websites, magazines, books etc. to find color combinations that catches your eye
- Choose your photo – After selecting your photo, look for scrapbook layouts with colors that complement it.
My Project –
Lately, I’ve been focusing on my Project Life, so for this challenge I created a 6″ × 4″ pocket page card.
The perfect subject was a photo I snapped last fall at Nalls Farm Market—a display of pumpkins so huge, they looked like something out of a fairy tale. Each autumn, I’m drawn to these giant gourds, marveling at their size and the effort it must take to nurture them. This picture, bursting with orange, was just waiting for a backdrop that would let it shine.
I haven’t yet completed my journaling for the gigantic pumpkins. I’m still deciding what to say about these huge beauties!

Reflections from the Craft Table
There’s something magical about scraplifting a color combination. It pushes you to look at familiar supplies with fresh eyes and experiment outside your comfort zone. For me, the orange, yellow, and blue palette brought my fall memory to life, reminding me that sometimes, inspiration can be borrowed and transformed into something uniquely your own.
There’s no right or wrong approach to this challenge—the goal is simply to explore creative ways to incorporate meaningful text into your memory keeping projects. Have fun experimenting with different techniques and discovering your unique style!
