Welcome to Week 14 – Scraplift a Technique

Creative Memory Keeping - Challenge 14

Scraplifting isn’t about copying—it’s about learning, adapting, and creating something uniquely yours. Think of it as a creative collaboration across time and space. You take a technique that resonates with you and make it fit your story, your style, and your supplies.

Challenge –

Your mission is simple – find a technique from a blog, photo journaling book, or website that sparks joy and incorporate that technique into your layout.

This could be a layering style, a color palette, a clever embellishment trick, or even a journaling approach. The goal is to stretch your creativity while honoring the brilliance of others.

Why Scraplifting Works

Scraplifting is more than a shortcut—it’s a learning tool. Here’s why it’s so powerful:

  • Breaks Creative Blocks: When you’re stuck, borrowing a technique gives you a starting point.
  • Teaches New Skills: You’ll discover methods you might never have tried otherwise.
  • Builds Confidence: Seeing a professional technique come to life in your own project feels amazing.
  • Encourages Experimentation: You can tweak colors, materials, and layouts to suit your style.

Think of it like cooking: you start with a recipe, then add your own spices. The result? Something deliciously yours.

Tips for This Challenge –

  • Choose a technique that excites you. If it makes you say “Wow,” that’s the one.
  • Adapt it to your project. Don’t feel pressured to replicate every detail—make it fit your story.
  • Mix old and new. Combine the borrowed technique with your favorite supplies for a fresh look.
  • Keep it fun. This is about inspiration, not perfection.

My Project –

I drew inspiration from Sara Tumpane’s layout “They’re Like Family” featured in Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Tips & Techniques. Her design had a beautiful balance of texture and simplicity, which felt perfect for my minimalist approach.

Meet Litten—my mischievous little cat who LOVES a bag! It doesn’t matter what type or size—if she fits, she sits. For Creative Memory Keeping – Challenge 14, I created a Project Life 6 x 4 card that captures her quirky personality.

The light blue and orange cardstock gave my card a cheerful pop of color, while the vellum and brads added depth without overwhelming the design. It’s a subtle nod to Sara’s technique but with my own twist to keep the layout clean and modern.

Products Used –

There’s no right or wrong approach to this challenge—the goal is simply to explore creative ways to incorporate meaningful text into your memory keeping projects. Have fun experimenting with different techniques and discovering your unique style!

Reflections from the Craft Table

Creative Memory Keeping – Challenge 14 reminded me why I love memory keeping—it’s a blend of storytelling and artistry. Scraplifting a technique pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me permission to experiment. Printing on vellum was new for me, and I loved how it softened the text while adding texture. The torn edges gave a handmade feel that contrasts beautifully with the crisp stripes of the cardstock.

The brads were a nostalgic touch, taking me back to early scrapbooking days when they were a staple. Layering them over vellum felt fresh and intentional, proving that old-school supplies can shine in modern layouts.

Most importantly, this project captured Litten’s personality in a way that feels authentic. Every time I look at this card, I smile—and that’s the magic of memory keeping.
