Welcome to Week 15 – Scraplift a Layout Idea

Creative Memory Keeping - Challenge 15

What Does Scraplifting Mean?

Scraplifting is one of my favorite ways to jumpstart creativity. Simply put, it means finding a scrapbook layout you love and recreating it in your own style. Think of it as borrowing inspiration—not copying exactly, but using the design as a springboard for your own interpretation. It’s perfect for those moments when you’re staring at your supplies and wondering where to start.

Why Scraplift?

  • Break Creative Blocks: If you’re stuck, scraplifting gives you a clear starting point.
  • Learn New Techniques: You’ll pick up design tricks from layouts you admire.
  • Adapt to Your Style: You can tweak colors, sizes, and embellishments to fit your project.
  • Save Time: No need to reinvent the wheel—just make it your own.

Scraplifting is a reminder that creativity thrives on connection. By drawing inspiration from others, we learn, grow, and discover new ways to tell our stories. So grab your favorite papers, stamps, and embellishments, and let’s keep this memory-keeping journey going strong!

Challenge –

This week’s mission is simple yet powerful: find a scrapbook layout that inspires you and make it your own. Use the original design as a guide for structure and flow, but let your creativity shine through with your choice of colors, patterns, and embellishments. Whether you stick closely to the sketch or take a few liberties, the goal is to transform inspiration into something uniquely yours. Think of it as a creative collaboration—borrowing ideas while adding your personal touch to tell your story beautifully.

Tips for This Challenge –

  • Start with a Sketch You Love: Browse sites like PageMaps, Pinterest, or your favorite scrapbook blogs for layouts that catch your eye.
  • Adapt the Size: If the original design is for a 12×12 page or a card, scale it down to fit your album or pocket page dimensions.
  • Keep the Structure, Change the Style: Use the layout’s framework as a guide, but swap colors, patterns, and embellishments to match your theme.
  • Play with Layers: Layering papers and textures adds depth—don’t be afraid to mix patterns or distress edges for extra character.
  • Add Your Own Twist: Incorporate unique elements like stamping, stitching, or mixed media to make the design truly yours.
  • Use What You Have: Dig into your stash for papers and embellishments—this challenge is perfect for using up leftover supplies.
  • Don’t Overthink It: The goal is inspiration, not perfection. Let the process be fun and creative!

My Inspiration for This Week

For Creative Memory Keeping – Challenge 15 I turned to one of my go-to resources – PageMaps.com. Their sketches are a treasure trove of ideas! I chose a layout from October 2022 Card Maps because it had a clean design with room for layering and embellishments—perfect for creating filler cards for my Project Life album.

My Project –

The original sketch was designed for a card, but I wanted to create a 6 x 4 project life card.

  1. Base Layer – I started with a dark red patterned paper and I cut it to 6 x 4. I distressed the edges with medium brown for a warm, vintage feel.
  2. Center Strip – Next, I added a light patterned paper strip about 1 inch wide, positioned slightly below the center. Before adhering, I inked the edges with medium brown ink for consistency.
  3. Sentiment – For the phrase, I stamped “Bring on the Magic // Bring on the Joy” using an acrylic stamp with dark green ink. I trimmed it into a strip and layered it below the center band.
  4. Embellishment – To finish, I added a wooden snowflake topped with a button from my stash. This little detail brought texture and dimension to the card.

Your Turn – Let’s Get Crafty!

Now it’s your turn! Find a layout that speaks to you—maybe from Pinterest, Instagram, or a favorite sketch site—and make it your own.

There’s no right or wrong approach to this challenge—the goal is simply to explore creative ways to incorporate meaningful text into your memory keeping projects. Have fun experimenting with different techniques and discovering your unique style!

Looking Ahead

Join me next week for Challenge 16 of our 52 Weeks of Creative Memory Keeping journey. Week 16’s challenge is “Scraplift a Topic.” Instead of focusing on a layout, we’ll take inspiration from a theme or subject and make it uniquely ours. It’s a fun way to explore storytelling and design while keeping your personal style front and center. I can’t wait to see how you interpret this challenge!

I’m thrilled to see what we’ll create together!
