Welcome to Week 40 – Use Supplies Unexpectedly

Color makes my heart happy, and Spring feels like it was made just for me. From fresh blooms to bright hues popping up everywhere, this season always sparks my creativity and makes me want to pull out all the happy colors. There’s something about Spring that invites play, celebrates color, and reminds me to enjoy the simple joy of creating.
Challenge – Use Supplies Unexpectedly
I think all scrapbookers and paper crafters can agree—we have TONS of supplies tucked away in our stash. Sometimes we love them, sometimes we hoard them, and sometimes we honestly wonder why we bought them in the first place.
This challenge is about stepping outside the box and using supplies in unexpected ways. It’s about stretching your creativity and creating pages or pocket cards that feel totally unique.
For me, that supply was eyelets.
I have a lot of colorful eyelets—because I love color—but I’ve been stuck in a rut. I only ever use them on tags. That’s it! So for this challenge, I decided it was time to figure out a new and creative way to use my eyelets.
Tips for This Challenge –
- Look for supplies you haven’t used in a while
- Ask yourself, “What else could this be?”
- Try using an embellishment for texture instead of decoration
- Combine tools or materials you don’t normally use together
- Don’t overthink it—play and experiment
Design Ideas –
- Torn edges + ink: tear paper for organic edges, then lightly ink to emphasize texture.
- Washi “stitching”: run a thin line along an edge like faux seam tape.
- Create a title block: place alphabet stickers on a strip of vellum or label paper for a clean title band.
- Mini “bookends”: place two matching chipboard pieces on opposite corners to frame the design.
- Sprinkle” line: place dots in a gentle curve to guide the eye across the card.
My Project –
Since I’m currently focusing on my Project Life albums, I decided to create a 6 x 4 card celebrating Spring.
My daffodils are blooming in a gorgeous yellow, and that burst of color became my inspiration.
Here’s how my card came together:
- I threaded green and white twine through the eyelets, leaving the tails in the center so I could tie a bow.
- I cut a 6 x 4 card from a small blue gingham patterned paper from my stash.
- I found a coordinating solid blue cardstock and trimmed it to 5” x 3½”.
- I marked the placement for my yellow eyelets and used my Clikit tool to punch the holes.
- I set the eyelets using my Crop-A-Dile.

To add journaling, I stamped “Adore This Season” and added the date below it. I adhered the eyelet panel to the center of the gingham card.
To finish the card, I printed my photo of daffodils at 3.75 x 2.5 inches. To make the photo pop, I added a simple white cardstock mat and adhered it to the card.
This may sound complicated, but it really wasn’t! Once I decided how I wanted to use my eyelets, everything came together quickly. Now I have a one-of-a-kind Project Life card that celebrates the color and beauty of Spring.

Reflections from the Craft Table
This challenge reminded me how easy it is to fall into creative habits—and how refreshing it feels to break out of them. Using my eyelets in a new way gave them new life and made the project feel playful and fun again. Sometimes, all it takes is one small creative decision to spark a whole new direction.
