Welcome to Week 6 – Create a Ribbon Cluster

Ribbons are a wonderful accent on a page or pocket card! So why not create an accent with a ribbon cluster? Tie ribbons in a loose knot and cluster them together in the same area on your page or card. Just remember for an aesthetically pleasing look keep your ribbon knots to odd numbers.

There’s something so magical about rummaging through your ribbon stash and discovering the perfect combination of colors, widths, and patterns.

Creative Memory Keeping - Challenge 6

For this challenge, I created a pocket page card celebrating my beloved furry companion, Tigger. Who could resist his smile!! Using various ribbons in complementary colors, I crafted a special memento that captures his playful personality and the joy he brings to my everyday life. The ribbon embellishments add texture and dimension to the card, making it a standout piece in my memory keeping collection..

Challenge –

Add texture and visual interest to your layout with a ribbon cluster—a beautiful embellishment technique that groups multiple ribbons tied into loose knots.

Tips for This Challenge –

  • Mixing Patterns and Textures – Don’t be afraid to mix script, solids, and checks. The contrast is what creates visual interest!
  • Layering for Impact – Cut varying lengths, then layer the ribbons, starting with the widest at the back and finishing with the skinnier bobbin ribbon on top. This technique gives your cluster a pleasing, gathered look.
  • Adhering for Longevity – Don’t forget to use strong adhesive.

Design Ideas –

This technique isn’t just for cards—try it on scrapbook layouts, journal covers, or even gift tags. Ribbon clusters are a delightful way to use up scraps and give your handmade projects a tactile, layered feel.

My Project –

For this challenge, I embraced a minimalist approach and created a simple 6″ × 4″ pocket page card.

This pocket card celebrates my love for my furry companion, Tigger. He has brought so much joy and happiness into my life during a time when I desperately needed it. After my beloved Rosie crossed the Rainbow Bridge, my grief was overwhelming. A couple of months after losing her, when I was at my lowest point, this smiling, happy pup came into my life. Tigger has helped my heart heal from my loss.
