Welcome to Week 7 – Take an Artistic Photograph

The heart of this challenge is simple yet profound—step into the mindset of a photo enthusiast, and let your lens guide you toward the beauty hiding in plain sight.
Challenge –
Take a closer glance at things in your life that you might otherwise walk on by. Look for beauty in unexpected places, inside and outside of your home!
Tips for This Challenge –
- Play with light and shadow: Notice how natural light creates different moods throughout the day. Try capturing objects during golden hour or experiment with dramatic shadows.
- Change your perspective: Get down low, shoot from above, or capture subjects from unusual angles to transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary images.
- Focus on details: Use macro photography techniques to highlight textures, patterns, and small elements that often go unnoticed in daily life.
- Embrace imperfection: Sometimes the most compelling images come from capturing the beautiful imperfections around us—weathered surfaces, asymmetrical objects, or unplanned moments.
- Experiment with composition: Try using techniques like the rule of thirds, leading lines, or framing to create more visually appealing photographs.
- Look for color stories: Pay attention to how colors interact in your environment and try to capture complementary or contrasting color schemes.
- Shoot everyday objects in new ways: Challenge yourself to photograph ordinary household items from fresh perspectives that highlight their unique qualities.
- Practice mindful observation: Take time to truly see your surroundings before raising your camera—sometimes the best shots come after patient observation.
Seeing Through New Eyes
As I wandered through my home and garden, camera in hand, I found myself pausing more often—lingering over the subtle curve of a petal or the glistening beads of rain after a sudden shower. It’s easy to hurry past these gentle wonders, distracted by the day’s demands. But, in the spirit of this challenge, I was determined to look closer.
My Project –
For Creative Memory Keeping – Challenge 7, I again embraced a minimalist approach and created a simple 6″ × 4″ pocket page card.
My subject: Vinca flowers, dazzling in their simplicity. Some shone white with deep pink centers, others blossomed in soft pink, each adorned with rain droplets clinging to their petals. The scene was fresh, vibrant, and quietly spectacular—a reminder that beauty flourishes even after a storm.

The Power of Artistic Photography in Memory Keeping
What I love most about this challenge is that it encourages us to celebrate the overlooked and the ordinary. Artistic photography isn’t just about capturing a striking image—it’s about telling a story, preserving a feeling, and adding intention to your creative process.
By inviting myself to slow down and seek beauty, I found that my Project Life album became more than a record of events; it became a living tapestry of moments, colors, and emotions. The details—the rain droplets, the subtle shades, the tactile embellishments—helped me memorialize an afternoon that might have slipped away unnoticed.
If you’re following along with the 52 Weeks of Creative Memory Keeping, I encourage you to take this week’s challenge to heart. Let your camera be a tool for discovery. Take a closer look at your surroundings, and don’t be afraid to find inspiration where you least expect it. Beauty is everywhere—it’s up to us to see it, capture it, and cherish it.
