Welcome to Week 9 – Doodle on Photographs

The idea is easy: take a photo and add your own hand-drawn touches. Maybe it’s a sweet phrase, a fun doodle, or a little accent that makes you smile. This turns an ordinary photo into something that feels personal and full of life.

Why doodle? Because sometimes a few words or squiggles say what a photo alone can’t. It’s about creativity, connection, and joy.

Challenge –

Express yourself by doodling right on you photos! Try using your own handwriting in an open area of the photograph.

Tips for This Challenge –

Here are a few tips to make it easy and fun:

  • Pick a Photo That Speaks to You – Choose one that makes you happy or tells a story.
  • Plan Before You Ink – Sketch your doodle ideas on scrap paper first. It helps you feel confident before you start.
  • Keep It Simple – A short phrase or a few doodles can make a big impact.
  • Have Fun With It – Try playful lettering, arrows, or tiny hearts. Just make sure you don’t cover up the best parts of your photo.

My Projects –

For Creative Memory Keeping – Challenge 9, I created a Project Life 6 x 4 card using a 4 ½” x 3 3/8” photo of Tigger and Roman sunbathing. The turquoise cardstock gave the whole layout a fresh, happy vibe. To make it pop, I added a plastic die-cut sun from Ali Edwards’ Story Kit Light—because what says sunshine better than a bright little sun?

Across the bottom of the photo, I doodled the phrase “I’m gonna soak up the Sun!” with a Micron pen. Then, to add a little extra personality, I stamped a couple of phrases from the This Little Life stamp set along the top of the card. For dimension, I stamped a round phrase onto cork and punched it out with a circle punch. It’s a small detail, but it adds such a nice texture!

I kept the overall look minimalist, but it turned out so cheerful! Every time I glance at it, I can’t help but smile.

Reflections from the Craft Table

Creative memory keeping isn’t just about saving pictures—it’s about telling your story in a way that feels like you. Doodling adds your voice and personality to the page. It’s a little thing that makes a big difference.

I’ll admit, I was nervous about writing on a photo at first. It felt like breaking a rule! But once I started, I realized how freeing it is. It’s fun, it’s personal, and honestly—it’s addictive.

There’s no right or wrong approach to this challenge—the goal is simply to explore creative ways to incorporate meaningful text into your memory keeping projects. Have fun experimenting with different techniques and discovering your unique style!
