Our Dining room table is used for many things. Eating meals. Doing homework. Gathering with friends and family. Collecting clutter. The table is also the center of our dining room.

I love decorating my home with little seasonal touches. Changing the runner on my dinning room table to reflect the different seasons and holidays is a quick and easy way of celebrating the time of year. Plus it’s colorful and fun!

I can switch a table runner out quick and easy to change the whole look and feel of my dining room. The added bonus? They are easy to store! I just roll them up and tuck in a storage bin.

Another great thing about this table runner is it’s easy to make. Even someone with very basic sewing skills can create them, making these table runners a wonderful “go to” for home decor updates and gifts.

You can make this easy table runner to decorate for every season, holiday or mood. Once you make one, you’ll be hooked!

Easy Patchwork Table Runner

Materials –

  • 1/4 yd – 45” – Fabric A (print)
  • 1/2 yd – 45” – Fabric B – (solid)
  • 1/2 yd – 45” flannel (backing)
  • Thread to match print/solid
  • Thread in bobbin matching flannel
  • Basic sewing supplies

Directions –

Finished runner is 34″ x 13″

Cut –

  • Fabric A (print) = 2 – 2 1/2″ x 44″ strips
  • Fabric B (solid) = 3 – 3 1/2″ x 44″ strips

Use 1/4” seam allowance.

Stitch the 2 1/2” x ” strips of Fabric A to both sides of a 3 1/2” x 44″” strip of Fabric B. Press seam towards Fabric B.

Cut –

  • 2 sections – 7″ long
  • 3 sections – 7 1/2″ long

Stitch a 7 1/2″ panel to a 7″ panel. Repeat. You will have two 14″ panels. Press seam allowances towards the solid fabric.

Stitch the 14″ panels to both sides of the last 7 1/2″ panel.

Stitch 3 1/2″ strips of Fabric B to the long sides of the runner. Cut strips to match short sides.

Press seams towards the solid fabric.

Lay runner top and flannel right sides together and pin.

Trim flannel to size of runner top.

Stitch together leaving about a 4″ opening for turning. Backstitch at the beginning and end of stitching to secure.

Trim corners and any seam allowances that are greater than 1/4″.

Turn using a bamboo skewer to push out the corners being careful not to poke a hole through the fabric. Press.

Top stitch around the runner edges. Press. Decorate your dining room table and “Wow!” everyone.

Materials

  • 1/2 yd - 45” - Fabric B - (solid)
  • 1/2 yd - 45” flannel (backing)
  • Thread to match print/solid
  • Thread in bobbin matching flannel
  • Basic sewing supplies

Tools

  • Sewing Machine

Instructions

Cut -

Fabric A (print) -

  • 2 - 2 1/2" x 44" strips

Fabric B (solid) -

  • 3 - 3 1/2” x 44” strips

Use 1/4” seam allowance

Quilt using the “stitch in the ditch” method working from the center to the outside.

Top stitch around the runner edges.
