Crafting a Rustic Carrot Sign
Spring has finally sprung and it’s time to celebrate! Why not try out this cool and easy Rustic Carrot Sign to welcome the season? Trust me, it’s a total blast to make and is the perfect way to add a pop of spring to your home decor. The rustic look of this carrot sign is going to make your farmhouse decor stand out even more!
Let’s make a Rustic Carrot Sign!
Supplies
- Wood Carrot Blank (Dollar Tree)
- Green Fat Quarter
- Gray Tin Self-Adhesive Wall Tile (Dollar Tree)
- Acrylic Paint – Dark Green
- Chalk Paint – Orange
- Paint Brush & Foam Brush
- Chalk Paint – Dark Wax Finish
- Mod Podge
- Sanding Block
- Jute Twine
- Raffia
- Small Chalkboard Tag
- Glue Gun & Glue Stick
- Cricut Mini-Press
Paint the lower portion of the carrot top with dark green acrylic paint.
Lay carrot face down on tile. Trace the bottom shape of the carrot onto the back of the tin wall tile. Cut out and set aside.
Trace the top of the carrot onto plain paper to create a pattern.
Lay pattern face down onto fabric and trace the pattern onto the back of the fabric. Cut out.
Mod Podge the raised portion of the carrot top. Let dry.
Paint around the carrot edge with orange chalk paint.
Hot glue tin carrot cutout to the carrot.
Sand edges of carrot to smooth and even out.
Paint carrot with orange chalk paint. Let dry.
Distress carrot with dark brown chalk wax. Let dry.
Lay fabric top onto carrot. Cover with parchment paper and iron with a Cricut Mini-press or iron.
Wrap jute twine around the bottom of the carrot top.
Tie several strands of raffia into a bow and hot glue on top of jute twine. Hot glue chalkboard tag below raffia bow. Thread jute twine through the pre-drilled holes in the carrot top and hang.
Have Fun with Colors
Don’t feel like you have to stick to traditional orange and green colors for your carrot sign. Experiment with different shades of orange and green, or even add in some other colors to make your sign stand out.
