Welcome to Week 1 – Work Those Words!

- Design a word cloud featuring meaningful words from a special event
- Journal on decorative paper strips and weave them through your layout

Supply Suggestions –

- Chipboard letters or words
- Decorative scissors for creating interesting edges
- Adhesive foam squares for dimension
Challenge –
Create a layout or Pocket Page card that features at least three different ways of incorporating text—such as stickers, handwriting, printed quotes, or dimensional letters. Focus on making your words visually interesting while telling your story.
My Projects –
I decided to create a full page layout and a 3″ × 4″ Pocket Page card.
My full page layout is about my pup Tigger. After I lost my Rosie, I wasn’t going to get another pup. But this little guy caught my eye and has brought so much joy into my life. Although I still mourn losing Rosie, Tigger is helping my heart heal.
To create this page, I dug into my stash of paper and embellishments. I used stickers, stamps, markers, and letters cut with my Cricut Maker 3. In Design Space, I created the page title, then adhered patterned paper to chipboard using my 5½” Xyron. Next, I used my Cricut Maker with the knife blade to cut out the title. To make the word phrases pop, I inked their edges with dark brown chalk ink. Finally, I added foam dots for dimension.

The Pocket Page card was a simple and quick creation. I cut a piece of cardstock to 3″ × 4″ and inked the edges with black. I created my word phrases with a typewriter font in Canva I printed the words out, cut them apart, and inked their edges black . For dimension, I added three small black brads to the bottom.
For my second Pocket Page card, I focused on a quote by J.R.R. Tolkien. Using a 6″ × 4″ piece of cardstock from my stash, I inked the edges with light brown. I stamped various quote-related words in a lighter shade of matching ink across the background. Finally, I printed the quote in three different fonts, cut out each section, inked the edges, and adhered them to the card.

The last Pocket Page card I created was another 6 x 4 card about my sweet Granny Girl Baby. Baby was 22 years old when she crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I miss seeing her sleeping cozy around the house.
These projects were fun and gave my creative mojo a boost. I’m already excited about what the next challenge will bring!
