Tips and Variations

  • You can use any type of potatoes you like, but red potatoes work best in this recipe because they hold their shape well and do not get mushy.
  • If you do not have celery, you can use dried celery flakes as a substitute.
  • You can add more ham if you like a meatier soup. You can also use bacon or sausage instead of ham.
  • You can add other vegetables to the soup, such as carrots, corn, or peas.
  • You can use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth for a vegetarian option.
  • For a creamier soup, you can add more milk or cream.
  • You can use different types of cheese to garnish the soup, such as Parmesan or Gouda.
