Rustic Farmhouse Rooster Kitchen Décor

This DIY rooster cutting board project is the perfect way to combine creativity and style for a beautiful piece of farmhouse-inspired décor. Supplies You’ll Need
- Cutting board (I found mine at Walmart, but any wooden board will do!)
- Rooster wood cutout (also from Walmart)
- MINIWAX Wood Finish – Special Walnut (224)
- Waverly Chalk Paint – Crimson, Ink, and White (also from Walmart)
- Paint Brushes
- Rag
- Foam Brushes
- MINIWAX Water-based Polycrylic Finish – Clear Satin
- Elmer’s School Glue
- Heat Gun
- Razor scraper tool
- Sanding block
- Titebond Wood Glue
- Pin Nailer Gun & nails (optional)
- Hot Glue Gun & silicone mat
- Burlap & black check 1½” wired ribbon
- Jute twine
- Floral pick (beads, leaves, etc.)
- Wire Cutters
- Craft Stapler
Steps
Stain the cutting board – Apply the Special Walnut stain using a foam brush. Wipe off any excess with a rag and let the board dry completely.
Paint the rooster – Use Crimson and Ink chalk paint to give your rooster a bold, country look. Allow to dry thoroughly.
Distress the rooster – Lightly sand the edges of your painted rooster for a weathered, vintage appearance.
Seal the rooster – Brush on a layer of Clear Satin Polycrylic Finish to protect your paint job.
Add a crackle effect to the board – Spread a thin layer of school glue over the board. When the glue turns tacky, apply a coat of white chalk paint. Quickly use a heat gun to dry, creating a fabulous, crackled finish. Once dry, use a razor scraper to distress the surface for added character.
Attach the rooster – Secure the rooster to the cutting board using wood glue, then fix it in place with a pin nailer. No nailer? No problem! Hold it using a hot glue gun until the wood glue dries.
Make and attach the bow – Craft a bow using your wired ribbon and jute twine.
Cut your floral pick to size with wire cutters, staple it to the top of the board, and hot glue your bow in the center, concealing staples beneath the bow loops.
Finish with a jute hanger – Tie a length of jute through the cutting board handle for easy hanging.
Display and Enjoy!
