DIY Snowman Skis

Christmas has passed and winter has arrived! Now is the perfect time to adorn your home with fun and creative crafts that embody the winter spirit.

If you’re in search of a fresh project to undertake during this snowy season, consider crafting these charming DIY snowman skis. They’re simple to create and can bring a festive flair to your front porch or indoor decorations.

Materials

DIY Snowman Skis
  • 2 dog eared fence pickets – Home Depot or Lowes
  • Black paint
  • 2 mini trees – I got mine from Dollar Tree
  • 1 medium bow
  • 1 snowman sign
  • 8” heavy duty zip ties
  • 3 – 1 1/4” flat head screws
  • Wood Glue
  • Large bell ornament
  • Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
  • Heavy Duty Wire Cutters
  • Drill and Countersink Bit

Steps

Creating the Skis

Start by painting the fence pickets with a coat of black paint. Make sure the paint is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.

Apply wood glue to the back of one picket, then lay it across the other to form an “X”. Secure them together with a clamp. On the top picket, mark three spots for drilling holes and use a countersink bit for this task. Secure the top picket to the bottom one using 1 1/4″ flat head screws. Leave the structure clamped for several hours to allow the wood glue to dry.

Decorating the Skis

Remove the plastic part from the tree stems. Then, using heavy-duty wire cutters, trim several inches off the stems.

Position the tops of the trees opposite each other. Then, secure the stems together with a zip tie.

Trim several inches from the post of the Snowman sign. Next, secure it to the tree stems using zip ties.

Attach the large bell ornament to the bow.

Next, use heavy-duty zip ties to secure the bow to the skis. Lastly, trim the ends of the zip ties

And there you have it, your very own DIY snowman skis. These skis are a fun and festive addition to any winter decor.

  • 3 - 1 1/4” flat head screws
  • Wood Glue

  • Drill and Countersink Bit
  • Small Clamps

Instructions

  1. Start by painting the fence pickets with a coat of black paint. Make sure the paint is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
  2. Lay one picket across the other in an “X”. Mark on the top picket three spots to drill holes. Drill holes using the countersink bit. Apply wood glue to back of top picket and place back on bottom board. Clamp together. Secure top picket to bottom one using 1 1/4” flat head screws.
  3. Apply wood glue to the back of one picket, then lay it across the other to form an "X". Secure them together with a clamp. On the top picket, mark three spots for drilling holes and use a countersink bit for this task. Secure the top picket to the bottom one using 1 1/4" flat head screws. Leave the structure clamped for several hours to allow the wood glue to dry.

Notes

  • Don't limit yourself to just a snowman sign. You can add other winter-themed decorations such as pinecones, snowflakes, or even fairy lights.
  • Play around with the colors of the skis and decorations. You can choose different colors of paint and ribbon to fit your personal style or the color scheme of your decor.
