So why not tap into your creative side and explore the rewarding journey of making your own wax melts? It’s a surefire way to bring a touch of personal charm to your home.

Let’s Do This!

Supplies –

DIY Wax Melts
  • Microwavable Wax (soy wax or beeswax are good choices)
  • Fragrance oils or essential oils
  • Candle Coloring Dye (optional)
  • Wax melt mold or ice cube tray
  • A microwaveable bowl – I used a plastic bowl from Dollar Tree
  • Thermometer
  • Stirring Spoon

Steps

First, melt the wax following the package instructions. Keep an eye on the temperature using the thermometer, ensuring it doesn’t exceed the recommended melting point for your specific wax (usually around 160-180°F or 70-80°C).

Next, add your fragrance or essential oils. The amount you’ll need can vary depending on the strength of the scent, but a good starting point is about 1 ounce of fragrance oil per pound of wax.

Stir the wax and fragrance oil together until blended.

Add the wax color next. The amount will depend on how dark you want your melts to be.

I usually start with a few drops and stir until they’re mixed in. If I want the melts to be darker, I add more drops.

Carefully pour or spoon the mixture into your wax melt molds or ice cube tray. Be sure not to overfill them. To keep the mess to a minimum, I placed a sheet of parchment paper under the mold.

Let the wax cool and harden. This can take a few hours, but it’s best to let them sit overnight if possible. I found the soy wax hardens quick!

Once the wax is fully hardened, you can pop the melts out of the mold and they are ready to use!

I have difficulty with strong fragrances but love how wax melts make my home smell so making my own means I can control how strong the fragrance is. This is really important to me so I prevent getting a headache when using them.

Have fun with texture!

To make your wax melts more enjoyable, consider incorporating dried lavender and other botanicals.

These not only add visual interest but also provide additional layers of scent when the wax is melted. You can experiment with various herbs, dried flowers, or even spices. For example, dried rose petals or chamomile can add a floral touch, while cinnamon or clove could give a warm, spicy note. Simply sprinkle your chosen additions into the wax melt molds before pouring the wax. Enjoy the process of creation and the delightful scents that fill your home.

Don’t forget to use wax melts safely. Don’t leave them unattended when melting to prevent accidents. Keep them away from children and pets to avoid accidental consumption or mishandling.

They can make your home smell good, creating a welcoming environment. So, relax and let the scents from your homemade wax melts make your home more comfortable.

I’d love to hear what you think about the easy and quick DIY wax melts! Let me know if you enjoy them as much as I do.
