Steps –
Getting The Fall Festive Sign Ready

First things first – let’s give that Dollar Tree wood plank some love! Remove twine that’s for the hanger, then paint it with Plaster chalk paint.
Once dry, distress the plank using antique wax for that perfect aged look. Set this aside to dry while you work on the cutouts.

Prepping Your Seasonal Cuties

Those Dollar Tree wood cutouts are adorable, but they need just a tiny bit of TLC to really shine. Grab your wood filler and fill any little holes you find in the apple, maple leaf, acorn, and pumpkin pieces. Once everything’s dry, sand it all smooth. I promise this little bit of prep work makes a big difference in how your finished piece looks!
Time for the Fun Part – Color!
This is where we really bring these little guys to life! Start by giving your pumpkin and acorn a thin coat of Mod Podge – this is going to help our decorative paper stick like a dream later on.

Let’s paint that apple – Cover up the stem with painters tape and paint the apple with Crimson chalk paint. Let dry.
Now for those leaf – Same deal with the painters tape – protect the stem then brush on that lovely DIY Goldenrod chalk paint. Let dry. (For DIY Chalk Paint instructions, see my blog post “Sunflower Pumpkin for Fall Decor.”)
For the leaves – Use painters tape to protect areas you don’t want painted, then apply your Fern paint for that natural leaf green. Let dry.

Now, let’s protect the apple leaf, apple, acorn, maple leaf, and pumpkin bottoms with some trusty painters tape! Time to add a lovely coat of Truffle paint to these areas. Once you’re done, just set them aside to dry completely.
Adding Those Special Little Touches
Here’s where we get a bit fancy! Trace your acorn and pumpkin shapes onto some pretty scrapbook paper, cut them out, and use your mini press to attach them. The heat method works like a charm!

Now grab that Walnut Distress Ink and your foam dabber – we’re going to age these babies up! Just dab around the edges and watch them instantly look vintage and loved.
For your maple leaf, sketch in some veins with your pencil first (don’t worry about being perfect – nature isn’t!), then trace over them with that Light Brown Sharpie. So cute and realistic!

Putting It All Together

Paint those “FALL” letters with the Ink paint – I like to put them on painters tape first to make handling easier.
Once the letters dry, hot glue each letter to its perfect spot. The “F” looks adorable on the pumpkin, and so on!
Don’t forget those sweet little raffia bows on the pumpkin and apple – they add just the right farmhouse touch!
Hot glue the pumpkin, maple leaf, acorn and apple to the distressed wood plank.

Here’s to Some Creative Fun!

This part is so fun! Take apart that Dollar Tree fabric garland and give those strips a good press with your iron (low heat with parchment paper – we don’t want any mishaps!). Cut your ribbons to match.
Now comes the creative part – alternate between your pressed fabric strips and ribbons, then wrap everything together with jute twine.
The Grand Finale
Thread some embroidery floss through that vintage button and attach it to your bundle. It’s these little details that make people go “wow!”
Tie your jute hanger back onto your Fall Festive Sign, add a coordinating ribbon bow with your glue gun, and step back to admire your handiwork!

Where to Show Off Your New Creation
This versatile little beauty looks amazing:
- Welcoming guests on your front door (hello, curb appeal!)
- As the star of your mantel display
- Propped on a console table with some pumpkins and candles
- In your kitchen as part of a fall coffee station setup
My Final Thoughts (And a Little Confession!)
Okay friends, can I be totally honest with you? There’s something absolutely magical about creating beautiful things with your own two hands, especially when you can do it without spending a fortune! This project is proof that creativity beats budget every single time.
And here’s the best part – once you’ve mastered these techniques (and trust me, you totally will!), you can use them for ANY season. Winter wonderland signs, spring garden plaques, summer beach vibes – your creativity is the only limit!
So go ahead and hang that gorgeous Fall Festive sign with pride! 🍂✨
