Happy Harvest Pumpkin Wreath

Happy Harvest Pumpkin Wreath

I love decorating for Fall!! The vibrant harvest colors. The reds, yellows and oranges. The changing leaves, scarecrows, hay bales, Mums and pumpkins. Of course pumpkins!! No Fall decoration is complete without pumpkins!!

This year I decided to add a bit of a non-traditional color in my decorations. Turquoise to provide contrast and “pop”.

This easy Happy Harvest Pumpkin Wreath gave my Fall decorations a fun look!

Materials –

Steps –

  1. Using scissors or a rotary cutter and mat, cut 30 – 8” strips of each color for a total of 120 strips.

2. Scrunch together the center of an 8” strip and clip in the center.

3. Choose an 8” strip of another color, scrunch together in the center and clip to the top of the first color.

4. Pick a third 8” strip of another color, scrunch together in the center and clip to the top of the first two strips.

5. Take an 8” strip of the last color, scrunch together in the center and clip to the top of the bunch of strips. You now have one bunch.

6. Insert a 4” zip tie catty corner behind the cross frame and 2nd wire from the outside wreath ring.

7. Hold the bunch of deco mesh in the center, remove clip and squish it tight. Lay the bundle on top of the zip tie and attach to the wreath ring. Pull zip tie tight as you can, rotate the tail to the back of the wreath and clip the tail.

8. Create another bundle of deco mesh rotating the colors and attach to the wreath using the 3rd from the outside wreath ring.

9. Repeat Steps 2 – 8 until you have 5 bundles attached to the wreath frame – 1 attached to the cross bar and 4 attached to alternating rings.

Create a bundle of deco mesh, and attach it to the cross frame the same way as Step 7.

Follow Step 9 until fill the next wreath section with bundles. You now have 10 deco mesh bundles attached to the wreath frame.

Repeat Step 9 until you have the frame filled with 120 deco mesh bundles.

Make a bow with the 1 1/2” wire ribbon. I normally use a Bowdabra to make my bows but my ribbon has a one way design and some of the loops would be upside down. Instead I made my bow using the technique I learned in the video Quick Easy Christmas Bow by Chrystal’s Crafties. This method of making bows is super quick and easy!! Attach the bow to your wreath.

Hot clue pipe cleaners to the back of your Happy Harvest sign and attach to the wreath. Cut the excess pipe cleaner off.

Use a pipe cleaner to create a hanger on the back of the wreath.

Hang up and admire the awesome wreath you just made!!

Next time –

When I made my wreath I cut 10” strips but I found the sign difficult to secure. I think 8” strips will be perfect and that’s the length I’ll use next time I make this wreath. I have plans to do a Christmas wreath next.

When I first started making the deco mesh bunches, I was very clumsy. I had a hard time getting my fingers to scrunch the center of the strips evenly and it took me a bit of time to attach one bunch. Several times I had to restart the process because I didn’t hold the center squished enough but once I attached a few, it turned out to be rather quick to put together.

I purchased my deco mesh from The Dollar Tree and found it ravels really bad and I don’t recommend using DT deco mesh for wreaths unless there’s a way to prevent the fraying. I’m working on figuring out how to do that. I bought the Happy Harvest Pumpkin sign from The Dollar Tree and love how the signs work for wreaths.

Let me know how your wreath turns out. I would love to see which season you are decorating for!!
