January – 52 Hikes Challenge
January – 52 Hikes
Embarking on the 52 Hike Challenge is an awesome experience that is shaping my life in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I have always loved being outdoors and walking in the woods. This challenge excites me to step out of my comfort zone and experience new trails. To read more about how I decided to embark on this journey read my blog post The 52 Hike Challenge: A Journey of Adventure and Exploration.
January was an excellent month to kick off the 52 Hikes Challenge. The weather was mild so Tigger and me was able to get out and enjoy the fresh air! We had a great start with our January – 52 Hikes at the Sherando Park Trail and the Museum of Shenandoah Valley Trail.
Our very first hike . . .
We started with the Sherando Park Trail – Warrior Drive Ent 2. This was not just a hike, but also the first walk with my faithful partner, Tigger. Walking with my new buddy added a whole new dimension to the hike, making it a lot more fun. Tigger seemed to relish the adventure just as much as I did!
The hike spanned 1.1 miles, and we were blessed with ideal hiking weather with temperatures in the high 60’s and the sun shining brightly in the sky.
Couldn’t wait to get back out there!
The very next day, we tackled another trail – the Museum of Shenandoah Valley Trail. The day was cooler, with temperatures in the mid-50’s and an overcast sky. Despite the chill, we completed the trail, taking in the serene beauty and tranquility of the Shenandoah Valley.
The Museum’s Art on the Trails exhibit currently features a mobile hanging inside a renovated 1950s-era silo, which depicts birds in flight. For more information about Art on the Trails, click here.
This was a slightly shorter trail, spanning 1.04 miles, but it was every bit as rewarding.
Enjoying the journey . . .
Each hike Tigger and undertake as part of the 52 Hikes Challenge presents us with a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and appreciate its beauty. It also reinforces our love for outdoor adventures and the joy of discovering new trails.
To keep track of the trails we’ve explored and to find new adventures, I use AllTrails. It’s great because you can explore either via their app or on your computer. I enjoy seeing our progress!
Tigger and I didn’t manage to hike every week as we initially hoped, mainly because we aren’t fond of cold weather. However, as the days start getting warmer, Tigger and I plan to hit the trails more often!
And as I look back on the adventures we’ve had so far, I can’t help but look forward to the remaining hikes that Tigger and I have yet to embark on. The thrill of the challenge and the promise of more adventures keep us going. I can’t wait to update you on our progress in the months to come.
Let me know of what hiking adventures your taking this year! Share in the comments below!
