Keep Your Cup Cozy!

Cup cozies are a great way to keep your hands from burning when holding a hot drink or freezing when enjoying a cold one. An added benefit is cozies keeps your drink insulated. Reusable cozies also helps to reduce paper waste and give us the opportunity to help the environment.

I love how colorful cup cozies lift my spirits when I see them wrapped around a special drink. That helps make my day! Sometimes the little things can lift us up a lot!

Note – this sleeve fits a 12 oz cup. I used a Starbuck’s cup for my “model”. Adjust the size of the pattern if need to fit different sizes.

Cup Cozy Materials –

2 – 13″ x 6″ scraps of fabrics or 2 fat quarters
1 – 13″ x 6″ scrap of flannel
Elastic Ponytail Holder
1 – 1″ Button
Thread

Sewing Machine
Basic Sewing Supplies
Cup size normally use

Cup Cozy

Instructions –

Press fabric and flannel.

Stack material –
fabric – right side up
lining – right side down
flannel
pattern

Pin and cut out.

Mark short edge of flannel for elastic loop. Remove pattern keeping fabric stacked together.

Pinch ponytail holder creating two loops. Stitch around holder 1/3 from fold to create a two loops – one larger than the other.

Insert ponytail holder between fabric and lining making sure the large loop is inside.

Baste holder in place.

Pin and stitch around cozy using 1/4” seam allowance, leaving about a 4” opening on one long edge for turning.

Clip curves and corners. Trim any seam allowances that are wider than 1/4”.

Turn cozy and use a turning tool or a bamboo skewer to poke the corners out. Be careful not to poke a hole in the fabric.

Press making sure the opening is pressed evenly with the sewed edge. Top stitch.

Wrap cozy around cup and mark button placement. Stitch button to cozy. If you prefer the button stitching not to show on the inside, stitch button by hand without stitching through the lining.

And Voila!! A beautiful, reusable cup cozy to keep your hand safe, your drink insulated and lift your spirits.

Cup cozies are a cute and fun way to keep your hands from burning when holding a hot drink or freezing when enjoying a cold one.

Materials

  • 2 - 13" x 6" Scraps of fabrics or 2 fat quarters
  • 1 - 13" x 6" scrap of flannel
  • 1 - Elastic Ponytail Holder
  • 1 - 1" Button
  • Thread

Tools

  • Sewing Machine
  • Basic Sewing Machine
  • Cup of size normally use

Instructions

  1. Press fabric and flannel.
  2. Stack material = Fabric - right side up / Lining - right side down / Flannel / Pattern
  3. Pin and cut out.
  4. Mark short edge of flannel for elastic loop placement. Remove patter keeping fabric stacked together.
  5. Pinch ponytail holder creating two loops. Stitch around holder 1/3 from fold to create two loops - one larger than the other.
  6. Insert ponytail holder between fabric and lining marking sure the large loop in inside.
  7. Baste holder in place
  8. Pin and stitch around cozy using a 1/4" seam allowance, leaving about a 4" opening on one long edge for turning.
