Pound Pup!!
October is a month to celebrate. October kicks off the Holiday season by being the time of year for all of the Harvest Festivals and, of course, the fun of dressing up for Halloween.
October is also Adopt-a-Shelter Dog month.
Nine years ago on October 12th, I celebrated Adopt-a-Shelter Dog by bringing home my own special pound pup, a very beautiful American-Bulldog mix named Rosie. I can’t remember what my life was like without her.
I’m not sure who rescued who. I was going through a difficult season in my life and Rosie helped soothe my hurting heart. She brought joy, fun and love into my life at a time when I desperately needed it.
Meet my pup – “The Rose”
My pup isn’t a morning girl. When I try to get her up in the mornings, Rosie buries her nose under her blanket and ignores me.
Rosie loves playing Frisbee and ball.
I don’t know how she sees where she’s going.
Next to playing fetch, going on adventures is something Rosie loves. We go on as many road trips as we can to see interesting sights.
Since 1981, American Humane Society has celebrated “Adopt-a-Dog Month®” each October in an effort to help the estimated 3-4 million animals waiting in shelters every year get the loving, forever homes that they deserve.
Be a hero this month and adopt a dog from your local shelter or rescue group. You’ll be saving his or her life and greatly improving your own as dogs are amazing, supportive and heroic companions.
If you aren’t at a place in your life where you can bring home a new furry best friend, it’s okay – you can still celebrate Adopt-a-Dog Month. Show you care by donating time, money or supplies like pet food, leashes, beds and toys to your local animal shelter or rescue group.
