Pumpkins Sitting Pretty! – Fall Decor Craft

Pumpkins Sitting Pretty! – Fall Decor Craft

Pumpkins are my favorite fall decoration. But real pumpkins only last for so long then have to be thrown away.

So to fix that, why not decorate with non-real pumpkins? That’s what I decided to do!

Today is National Pumpkin Day!! Let celebrate by making these colorful, fun tributes to one of Fall’s most loved decorations.

Getting Pumpkins Ready

Remove the raffia bow and set aside.

Paint the pumpkins orange, turquoise and white. I used Waverly Chalk paint – agave lightened with white, sandstone and pumpkin. Let dry.

After paint dries use the round brush to touch up any spots missed. Paint the stems with medium brown. I used Apple Barrel 20558E Territorial Beige.

Stacking Pumpkins

Contour using dark brown creme wax. I used Americana Decor Creme Wax.

Lay out pumpkins and decide what color order you like.

Hot glue the end of the twine to the back of the stem of the top pumpkin.

Wrap twine around the stem covering completely. Cut twine leaving about a 10″ tail. Thread upholstery needle with twine and weave twine under wrapped stem. Secure with a touch of hot glue.

Smear wood glue on the back of two of the pumpkins and stack them. Cover with a paper towel or a cloth and weigh down with something heavy.

Cut about a 10” length of ribbon. Baste stitch the center and gather. Cut ends of the ribbon on the diagonal.

Hot glue the gathered ribbon to the stem of the top pumpkin. Tie bow using several strands of raffia and hot glue on top of the ribbon.

Pumpkins Almost Done

I love how these pumpkins turned out. I love the contrasting colors. The non-traditional colors really make these pumpkins fun!
