The Stash Busting Challenge at PatternReview.com

I’m thrilled and delighted to announce my participation in the upcoming PatternReview.com Stash Busting Challenge this year, an event I’ve been eagerly anticipating!

I completed last year’s 52 Week Sewing Challenge 2024 on schedule. While reaching the finish line was exciting, the constant pressure of project selection and deadline-driven sewing took away some of the joy. This contest offers a more relaxed approach—I can sew from my stash at my own pace during the contest period.

This exciting and innovative stash busting challenge encourages sewists of all skill levels to explore the depths of their fabric collections, rediscover forgotten treasures, and transform these hidden gems into beautiful and practical projects that will enhance their wardrobes and homes.

The Stash Busting Challenge

One of the most appealing and generous aspects of this contest is its flexibility – participants have the opportunity to submit an unlimited number of completed projects throughout the contest period, allowing for maximum creativity and productivity.

Spanning a full two months from May 1st to June 30th, 2025, the contest provides ample time to dive deep into your existing fabric collection and bring your creative visions to life.

The Stash Busting Challenge

The contest guidelines are refreshingly straightforward and accessible: simply use fabric that has been patiently waiting in your stash for at least six months prior to the start date. This presents the perfect opportunity to finally utilize those special fabrics you’ve been carefully preserving – the ones you’ve been saving for just the right project and moment to showcase their potential.

My Stash Goals

Here’s my detailed action plan for the contest period:

  • Create two wearable garments from my carefully curated stash fabrics
  • Produce two accessory or home décor pieces
  • Capture the entire creative journey with photos and notes about my process

Choosing My First Project & Tracking My Progress

Since much of my fabric stash is earmarked for planned projects, I started there to choose my first piece. I had previously made a skirt for another sewing challenge, so completing the matching suit jacket seemed like the perfect choice. This fabric has been in my stash for years—it’s finally time to finish this project!

I’ll be sharing my journey, including pattern selections, construction techniques, unexpected discoveries, and finished project reveals. Stay tuned for my first challenge project!

Feel inspired to tackle your own fabric stash? I’d love to have you join our creative community at PatternReview.com to register for the contest. Together, we can breathe new life into our fabric collections and create something truly special!
