- 1 roll – 3/8” ribbon
- Halloween craft picks
- Witches Hat Frame
- Black foam board
- #5 plastic canvas
- Small zip ties
- Glue gun & glue sticks
- Wood burner pen or rotary cutter & self-healing mat
- Clips
- Glass Craft Mat
Steps –
Trace the top of the hat frame onto the black foam board. Then cut the triangle out.
Mark locations on the triangle shape to punch holes for attaching the triangle to the hat frame using the zip ties. Make the holes so the zip ties straddle the cross bars.
Outline the bottom on the witches hat onto the plastic mesh canvas. Cut out and attached to the hat frame using zip ties.
Use the black deco mesh to wrap the top of the hat frame. Glue the deco mesh to the foam board in the back.
Wrapping the deco mesh can be tricky. The easiest way is to cut strips, wrap then glue to the back.
Cut deco mesh into 9” lengths. How many lengths depends on how full you make the brim of the witches hat.
I began cutting the lengths using the wood burner pen but the fumes were so awful I switched to a rotary cutter.
Take a length of 7” inch black mesh and scrunch it up in the middle then clip it. Take a length of 7” purple, orange or green mesh, scrunch up in the middle, stack on the black mesh then clip it. Next use a 7” length of spiderweb tulle, scrunch it in the middle and stack it on the other mesh.
Attach the deco mesh to the plastic canvas using a zip tie.
Keep adding bunches of mesh using different colors until you have the fullness you want.

Cut a length of 2 1/2″ ribbon to create a band at the base of the hat.
Create a bunch of deco mesh and attach the bow to the mesh using hot glue.
Hot glue the mesh and bow to the top of the witches hat.
Cut ribbon in 11″ lengths and zip tie together. Make 3 to 5 groups of ribbons. Secure to the plastic mesh in various locations.
Attach a piece of twine to the back of the hat and hang up to enjoy.
Loving the result!
I got all of my supplies from Dollar Tree but finding the supplies there is hit and miss. The deco mesh wasn’t “good” quality and raveled badly. I don’t recommend using it.
This wreath took some time to make. I definitely consider it an intermediate project but fun to make.
It took me a bit of practice to scrunch the deco mesh, create a bunch then attach to the plastic mesh. But once I got the hang of it I was good to go.
I love how it turned out and I’m glad I made it. It’s gonna look great either hanging on my front door or the wall.
These hat frames have so many possibilities. What about making a scarecrow and a Santa’s hat!
I hope you’ll show me the witches hats you made with the hat frame. I would love to see your creations.
