Yum is in the Air with Hot Chocolate Bombs!

There’s a new trend in town that’s making a splash in the world of hot chocolate – Hot Chocolate Bombs! These little spheres of chocolatey goodness are filled with hot cocoa mix and marshmallows, which explode in a delightful burst when hot milk is poured over them.

Making hot chocolate bombs at home is easier than you might think but can be a bit of a challenge until you get the hang of it! Don’t give up because these are definitely worth the effort!!

Let’s Do This!

Ingredients & Supplies

Hot Chocolate Bombs
  • 1 cup of high-quality chocolate
  • Hot cocoa mix
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Silicone Sphere Mold
  • Paint brush
  • Optional – sprinkles, edible glitter, chocolate to drizzle

Melting Chocolate

  • Chop the chocolate into small, even pieces to ensure it will melt evenly.
  • Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
  • Heat in microwave for 30 seconds at 30% heat. Stir. Repeat process until chocolate pieces are melted. Some unmelted pieces are fine, they will melt as your stir.
  • Let cool just a bit so it can be easily brushed in the molds.

Making the Chocolate Bombs

Paint the inside of your silicone molds with chocolate using the paint brush. Make sure to coat the molds well and get the chocolate up to the top edges of the mold.

Hot Chocolate Bombs

Let harden and carefully remove from the molds.

Fill the half-spheres with your hot cocoa mix and marshmallows.

Next, seal the bomb by attaching two halves together with a little bit of melted chocolate. Brush a coat of melted chocolate around the middle to seal.

Hint – when attaching the two halves together use chocolate that is warm but still spreadable. If you use chocolate that’s too warm it will melt the bomb half.

When you’re ready to enjoy your hot chocolate bomb, just place it in a mug and pour over some hot milk. The bomb will explode, releasing the cocoa mix and marshmallows, and creating a comforting and delicious cup of hot chocolate.

Hot chocolate bombs keep well at room temperature in an airtight container for several weeks. Use cupcake liners to hold the bombs for gifting and storing.

But the fun doesn’t stop here!

The real beauty of hot chocolate bombs lies in their versatility. You can experiment with different types of chocolate, such as white, milk, or dark, and various fillings. Try adding a splash of color with rainbow marshmallows, or a hint of spice with a pinch of cinnamon or chili powder for an adventurous twist.

For those with a sweet tooth, consider adding crushed candy canes or caramel bits to your bombs for an added layer of flavor. If you’re a coffee lover, a teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder can transform your hot chocolate bomb into a mocha bomb!

You can also make these bombs extra special by decorating them. Drizzle some melted chocolate on top, sprinkle some edible glitter, or add some festive sprinkles for the holiday season. The possibilities are endless!

When drizzling melted chocolate on top make sure the chocolate isn’t too warm or it will melt the bomb. I tried sprinkling a couple of my bombs with colored sugar with little success. I had to spread a bit of melted chocolate on top then add the sugar. I’ve decided that plain is the way to go!

Not only are these hot chocolate bombs a treat to taste, but they’re also a feast for the eyes. The magic moment when the bomb melts away in the hot milk, revealing the hidden surprises inside, is a spectacle that both kids and adults will love.

So why not bring some warmth and joy to your winter evenings with this delightful treat? Get creative, have fun, and enjoy the magic of hot chocolate bombs!

I’d love to hear how you enjoyed these Hot Chocolate Bombs!
