Sew a Reusable Snack Bag

Reusable snack bags are a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bags. Let’s sew a reusable snack bag! It’s a fun and eco-friendly project that allows you to reduce waste while adding a personal touch to your snack time routine.

Materials

Reusable Snack Bags
  • 7″ x 5 1/2″ pieces of fabric – 2 for outside and 2 for lining
  • 9″ zipper
  • Pellon Vinyl Fuse – 2 – 7″ x 5 1/2″ pieces
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine

Steps

Apply fusible vinyl to the right side of lining following manufacturer’s instructions.

Lay zipper face down on right side of outside fabric with edges even. Pin along lower edge of zipper.

Lay lining fabric right side down onto to zipper with top edges even. Pin and stitch.

Turn match wrong sides and press along zipper seam. Stitch along edge.

Lay lining face up, zipper then outer fabric face down.

Pin. Stitch across upper edge.

Turn matching wrong sides. Press and stitch along edge.

Match lining fabric and outside fabric right sides together. Fold zipper towards lining. Stitch around edges.

Use 1/2″ seam allowance for lining and use 1/4″ seam allowance for outer fabric. Leave an opening along the bottom of the lining for turning.

Cut corners and trip seam allowances.

Turn and use a corner turner on outer fabric to smooth corners. Don’t press out the corners of the lining.

Press seams together at the opening in the lining. Stitch close to the edge.

Turn lining to the inside of snack bag, use corner turner at zipper and smooth seams using corner turner.

Now you can enjoy your snacks on the go without worrying about single-use plastic waste. Get creative and experiment with different fabrics and patterns to make your snack bag truly unique!

Instructions
