Pink Fleece & Cozy Dreams – 52 Week Sewing Challenge 2026 – Week 3 – Part 1

Pink Fleece & Cozy Dreams – 52 Week Sewing Challenge 2026 – Week 3 – Part 1

Week 2 is officially in the books, and I’m ready to cozy up to 52 Week Sewing Challenge 2026 – Week 3: Sew Something Cozy. It’s actually been a few weeks since I wrapped up the Week 2 challenge, so jumping back in feels extra exciting—like rediscovering a project you’ve been quietly dreaming about in the background. There’s something about returning to the sewing table after a little break that makes everything feel fresh again—the ideas, the inspiration, even the simple rhythm of cutting and stitching.

This week’s theme couldn’t be more perfectly timed either. I’ve been craving a project that feels soft, comforting, and just a little indulgent, and “Sew Something Cozy” checks all the boxes. It feels like an invitation to slow down, take my time, and really enjoy each step instead of rushing to the finish line. After all, cozy isn’t just about the final piece—it’s about the entire experience, from choosing fabrics that feel good in your hands to those quiet moments spent stitching something special together.

Diving into Week 3 feels a bit like settling into your favorite chair with a warm cup of coffee, or for me tea—familiar, comforting, and full of possibility. And honestly, I couldn’t think of a better way to get back into the flow of this challenge than with a project that’s all about comfort, creativity, and a little bit of handmade joy.

🧶 The Plan: Soft, Simple & Snuggly

Sew Something Cozy

I’m working with McCalls 2964, a simple unlined jacket pattern just begging to be turned into something soft and snuggly. I chose a light pink polar fleece (hello, instant comfort vibes!) and I’ll be pairing it with black buttons and a hand‑stitched black blanket edge for a little pop of contrast. Honestly, it already feels like I’m sewing myself a wearable hug.

✂️ Thinking Through the Fit & Design

Even though the pattern suggests a medium based on measurements, the loose, relaxed fit has me curious how it’ll all come together in the end. To give it a slightly more polished feel, I’m going rogue and drafting my own lining pieces—because why not add a little extra flair? Since the design is nice and simple with no darts or fussy shaping, creating the lining should be a fun little side adventure rather than a headache.

🪡 Slow Stitching Ahead

Now, the real time commitment: that blanket stitching. It’s definitely going to be the slowest part of the project, but also the heart of it. There’s something so satisfying about that kind of handwork—the kind you can settle into, stitch by stitch. With some travel coming up, this project will likely stretch over the next couple of weeks, but honestly… I kind of love that. It just means more cozy evenings, more quiet moments, and more time to enjoy the process.

📏 Drafting the Front Lining Piece

To create the front lining piece, I used both the jacket front and the front facing pattern pieces. I first marked the seam allowance on the facing, then laid it on top of the jacket front to show where the lining would sit. With everything in place, I layered tracing paper over the top and traced out the front lining piece.

With everything in place, I layered tracing paper over the top and traced out the front lining piece. For the remaining lining pieces, I’ll simply use the original jacket pattern as my guide.

After creating the front lining pattern, I moved on to cutting the jacket pieces from the pink fleece. I carefully marked all the necessary details and clipped the notches to keep everything aligned. Now everything is prepped and ready, and I’m excited to dive in and start sewing!

✨ Stitching It All Together

All in all, this project is already shaping up to be one of those slow, satisfying makes that’s just as much about the journey as the finished piece. Between the soft pink fleece, the extra touch of a custom lining, and all those future blanket stitches, it feels like I’m building something truly special—one cozy detail at a time. I may not be racing to the finish line on this one, but honestly, that’s part of the magic. Sometimes the best projects are the ones you can linger over, savor, and enjoy stitch by stitch… and this one is definitely giving all those warm, fuzzy vibes.
